Rajya Sabha MP From Tamil Nadu Writes Letter To JNU On Of Library For Tamil Studies Centre
The students raised these concerns after the administration put a board for the Special Centre for Tamil Students outside the CHS library.
Following allegations by a section of students that Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was shutting down the Centre for Historical Studies (CHS) library to accommodate the newly created Special Centre for Tamil Studies, the university administration said misinformation was being spread and that the library was only being shifted to an adjoining building.
In a statement Friday evening, the administration said, “Misinformation is being spread in the University that CHS Library is being closed… as part of an internal arrangement, the university has planned to relocate the existing CHS Library to the adjoining building.”
Students, including members of both All Indian Students’ Association (AISA) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), though, raised apprehensions of whether the adjoining building — the EXIM Bank Library — was enough to accommodate all the books. They also questioned the need to relocate the library in favour of the new centre, instead of setting up a new building for the purpose.
